Introduction

The 8th annual URSI-NG conference will be held this year at the Federal University of Technology Akure Nigeria.  The conference aims to provide a forum where Nigeria's premier professional association for radio scientists, engineers, and technologies and early career researchers hold periodic events to foster knowledge sharing among all stakeholders, including the Nigerian Communication Commission, network service providers, the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, the Military, Air, and Naval Forces, and others.  The event will take place next year on March 20–24, 2024, in Akure, Nigeria.

o  It will go ahead in person, but there will be a possibility to present online.

o   It will feature talks, panels, tutorials, and workshops/training covering a range of topics in radio science related subjects and AI.

o   The event encourages submissions of research works not only from the tropical region but from all regions of the world.

Prof. Oluyamo Travel Fund

Prof. Oluyamo, an erudite scholar and current Deputy Vice-Chancellor FUTA, has instituted a travel grant for postgraduate students who plan to attend the forthcoming conference physically. The grant worth #50,000 each will be award to two deserving students during the opening ceremony. Encourage your graduate students to apply. Application forms are available on the conference site. The award will be given based on (1) quality of paper submitted (2) letter of recommendation (3) need, as stated in their cover letter.


RULES FOR THE STUDENT PAPER COMPETITION AT EACH FOR THE URSI-NG CONFERENCE 2024

The first author and presenter must be a full-time university student.

-  The topic of the paper must be related to the theme/subtheme of the conference.

  • -   A Full Paper, not longer than 10 pages and not shorter than 4 pages in single-column, single spaced format meeting the requirements of the URSI Template, must be submitted by the date set for each of the URSI Flagship Meetings,

  • -   Submissions should be made through the online paper submission system set up for the URSI-NG Conference 2024 with indication of the willingness to participate in the Student Paper Competition.


  • -  The Full Paper will be evaluated within the Competition and will not be published to ensure that there are no subsequent prior-publication issues for those students who wish to submit the work to a journal. This means that the ten-page Full Paper will not be included in the symposium proceedings.


  • -  The student must also submit a Summary Paper or Extended Abstract on the same subject to the appropriate session. The Summary Paper or Extended Abstract will be included in the symposium proceedings.


  • -  A paper that is submitted to a journal before submission to the student competition is ineligible. 


  • -  A letter from the student’s advisor on university letterhead must be appended to the Full Paper. The letter must state that the author is enrolled as a full-time university student in a degree program. If the Full Paper is coauthored, the letter must state that all coauthors played only an advisory role. No other students are permitted as coauthors.

  • -  Five finalists will be chosen based upon quality, originality and scientific merit. They will receive free access to all social activities at the URSI Flagship Meetings and will be recognized. Prizes will be presented to the top finalists.


  • -  The finalists will present their papers in a special SPC session at URSI-NG Conference 2024. They will be judged by a panel consisting of the five URSI-NG Executives and technical committee coordinator or their authorized representatives.


  • -  The prizes will be awarded based on the clarity of the presentation, adherence to time, accessibility to the broad audience of the conference, and the ability to answer questions on the work.

Review

All submitted manuscripts will follow the process highlighted below.

(1)    the conference technical committee will determine if the manuscript fits into the theme of the conference

(2)    all manuscripts that fits into the theme will be evaluated by the editor and/or associate editors for quality and substance.  During this process, the manuscript will be tested for plagiarism and use of articifial intelligence. 

(3)    approved manuscripts will undergo double blind peer review by two experts.  

(4)    authors will be given the opportunity to address concerns raised by the reviewers.
